Why Extrait de Parfum Is the Only Concentration Worth Wearing

Most people buy a fragrance the way they buy a jumper off a rack. They smell it once, decide they like it, and take it home without asking what it's actually made of. Then three hours later it's gone, and they assume that's just how perfume works. It isn't. It's how eau de toilette works.

At Sirta Scents, everything we make is an extrait de parfum. Not because it sounds more expensive, but because it's the only concentration that does what a fragrance is supposed to do: stay with you.

The Difference Nobody Explains Properly

Fragrance concentration is simply how much actual perfume oil is dissolved in the alcohol base. Eau de toilette sits at the lower end, somewhere around 5 to 15 percent. Eau de parfum sits higher, usually 15 to 20 percent. Extrait de parfum, sometimes called pure perfume, sits highest of all, often 20 to 40 percent oil.

That gap sounds small written as percentages. It isn't small on skin. An eau de toilette gives you a bright, generous opening and then quietly disappears within a few hours. An extrait de parfum opens closer to the skin, develops more slowly, and is still there at the end of the day, sometimes still faintly present the next morning on a scarf or a coat collar.

You are not paying more for extrait de parfum because of clever marketing. You are paying for the raw materials themselves, since a higher concentration means more actual fragrance oil in every bottle, and that oil is the expensive part.

Why We Never Considered Anything Else

When we set out to build Sirta Scents, the decision to work exclusively in extrait de parfum wasn't really a decision at all. It was the only version of the brand that made sense to us. A fragrance that fades by lunchtime isn't a signature scent, it's a spritz you have to keep reapplying, and reapplying isn't luxury, it's maintenance.

The practical difference shows up in small moments. You spray once in the morning and you're not thinking about your fragrance again until you catch it faintly on your wrist during an afternoon meeting. Someone leans in during a conversation and comments on it hours after you left the house. You take a coat off at the end of the day and it's still there in the fabric.

That's the entire point of a signature scent. Not to announce itself the second you walk in, but to become something people quietly associate with you, precisely because it's still there long after the obvious top notes have faded.
